RTX 3060

At CES 2021, Nvidia unveiled the GeForce RTX 3060, the most affordable Ampere GPU to this date. While the previous entries of the Nvidia’s 30 series mostly focus on 2K and 4K resolution of gaming with Ray Tracing, it offers the best 1080p resolution gaming at a rather affordable price. However, it would not be a bad choice for the 2K resolution as well.

Much like the rest of Nvidia’s 30 series, this GPU is based on Nvidia’s 2nd generation RTX architecture known as Ampere. The card is designed with optimized Ray Tracing cores and 3rd gen tensor cores to provide incredible gaming performance. Nvidia has also announced that the card would be launching with 12 GB of GDDR6 memory, which might be a little surprising, considering that RTX 3060Ti has 8 GB of GDDR6 memory

The RELEASE DATE is coming closer –

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is set to launch on February 25 2021 at 5 PM GMT, which is about 10:30 PM according to Indian Standard Time. However, it is launching in the midst of one of the biggest GPU shortages that we have seen in years, so it is expected that the card will probably get sold out within minutes.

RTX 3060

Nvidia has officially confirmed the specs of the GeForce RTX 3060.

Architecture: Ampere
Video Memory: 12 GB GDDR6
Cuda Cores: 3584
Base Clock: 1.32 GHz
Boost Clock: 1.78 GHz
Memory Interface Width:  192-bit
Ray Tracing Cores: 2nd Gen
Tensor Cores: 3rd Gen
Graphics Card Power:170 W

Comparing this card to RTX 3060Ti, we can see that it has a significantly lower amount of CUDA cores. RTX 3060 Ti has 4864 CUDA cores with a 1.41 GHz base clock. Another major difference between these cards is that RTX 3060 comes with 12GB GDDR6 memory with a memory interface width of 192-bit. RTX 3060 Ti on the other hand has 8 GB of GDDR6 memory and has a memory interface width of 256-bit.

As far as performance is concerned, RTX 3060 is expected to attain over 60 FPS at 1080p on most modern titles, even with RTX turned on. As for 1440p, it should hold up pretty well, but it remains to be seen how well the Ray Tracing option performs at this resolution.

Nvidia has officially confirmed the PRICE of GeForce RTX 3060 –

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is going to be a mid-range card. Nvidia has officially revealed that the card will cost about $329, and In India, the price will be about Rs. 29,500. Nvidia won’t be releasing the Founders Edition of this GPU. Instead, the card will be available through exclusive board partners like Asus, MSI, Zotac, etc.

Nvidia has also announced that it will cripple the Cryptocurrency Hash rate of this gpu, which should restrict some miners from picking up this card. This is a positive step going forward, as there is a lot of instability in GPU pricing lately, due to Cryptocurrency mining

Overall, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 looks to be a promising card that can offer high-performance gaming at 1080p resolution even with Ray Tracing turned on. Let’s see how well this card performs when it gets released on February 25, 2021.
