Resident Evil Village is a direct sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. This upcoming survival horror game from Capcom places you in the boots of Ethan Winters who finds himself trapped in a mysterious village.
Resident Evil Village is the 8th major installment of the Resident Evil franchise and it was announced back in June 2020. Since then, several teasers and trailers were revealed by the developers and most recently, a PlayStation 5 exclusive demo named ‘Maiden’ was launched as well. These trailers and the Demo have revealed a lot about what we can expect from the game. So, with that being said, let’s take a look at certain theories and details that you need to know about RE Village.
MAIDEN
During the Resident Evil Village showcase event on January 22nd, Developer Capcom released an exclusive free-to-play demo for PlayStation 5. It featured a completely new character called Maiden who is trapped in Castle Dimitrescu. The demo itself is a short one, however, it is loaded with Easter eggs & references, and most importantly it gave us a glimpse of the gameplay and the game’s incredible attention to details. You can check out the gameplay walkthrough of the RE Village demo here:
Even though Maiden was a PlayStation exclusive demo, Capcom has confirmed that a different demo will be available in spring 2021 for all platforms. The full game will be available worldwide on May 7th, 2021.
CHARACTERS
ETHAN WINTERS: Ethan is the protagonist of Resident Evil Village. He and his wife Mia Winters were living peacefully in a new location under the protection of the BSAA, following the Baker mansion incident of Resident Evil VII: Biohazard. However, the peace did not last long.
MIA WINTERS: Wife of Ethan Winters. Mia used to work for the organization that was responsible for developing the bioweapon which caused the Baker mansion incident.
ROSEMARY WINTERS: She is the daughter of Mia and Ethan Winters. As of now, nothing much is known about her, but she will surely play an important role in the game.
CHRIS REDFIELD: The poster boy of the Resident Evil series, Chris was a former S.T.A.R.S member who currently works with Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA.)
ALCINA DIMITRESCU: She is the mistress of Castle Dimitrescu, which she controls with the help of her three vampire-like daughters. She has been one of the most prominent faces that we have seen so far and will surely be one of the principal villains of the game.
THE DUKE: He is the merchant of RE Village. He will have a large collection of weapons and utilities in his shop and he will be making several appearances throughout the game.
Several other characters like Heisenberg, Mother Miranda, and the Werewolf have also been teased by the developers, however, as of this writing, nothing much has been revealed about them.
PLOT
RE Village takes place a few years after the Baker mansion incident of RE VII: Biohazard. Ethan and his wife Mia have been living peacefully at a new location under the protection of BSAA, and they even had a daughter together. However, their life changes all of a sudden when BSAA captain Chris Redfield attacks their home, kidnaps their daughter, and brutally murders Mia in front of Ethan.
Ethan must now go on a quest to save his kidnapped daughter, which will eventually lead him to an isolated and mysterious village that is set somewhere in Eastern Europe.
GAMEPLAY
Just like its prequel, RE Village will also feature Ethan from a first-person perspective. However, this time around the combat looks to be much more interesting and challenging with more variety in enemy types. Speaking about the enemies, Capcom’s gameplay trailer has shown a lot of them, from slow-paced Gothic zombies to extremely powerful werewolves to a creepy band of vampire women. The series staple Boss-fight will also make a return as well.
Naturally, dealing with these enemies will require a lot of firepowers and this is where ‘Duke’ the merchant comes in. Ethan can purchase a large variety of weapons and supplies from his shop.
RE Village’s gameplay trailer suggests that there will be a heavy emphasis on crafting and inventory management. Speaking of which, the Tetris-style inventory management of Resident Evil IV will also make a return as well.
RESIDENT EVIL RE: VERSE
As a celebration of the 25-years of the Resident Evil franchise, Capcom unveiled a new title named Resident Evil RE: Verse. It is a four to six-player deathmatch battle that features fan-favorite characters from the RE franchise. Capcom announced that Resident Evil RE: Verse will be free with every copy of Resident Evil Village!
