WB announced Gotham Knights, the new Batman game from Batman: Arkham Origins dev WB Games Montreal which promised to be a new step forward on the Batman universe. During an exclusive interview with Patrick Redding (creative director) and Fleur Marty (senior producer), we heard that Gotham Knights will offer an online co-op campaign up to two players, in addition to experiencing Gotham Knights as a single-player game that includes unbound roaming and they will be able to switch characters at any point.
About Gotham Knights Co-Op
Marty explained how this co-op campaign will work. Players can drop in and out of Gotham and even visit somebody else’s Gotham City. Players can be in two different parts of the map if they want to meet and complete specific missions. Marty also goes on to reassure us that both players can play with the same character if they want to. Speaking of characters, players can choose between these four featured characters. Each character is uniquely equipped with gear, fighting styles, and even different moves.
- Highly trained in a variety of fighting styles, our first official playable character is none other than Batgirl herself. Her signature weapon is the Tonfa. Barbara Gordon is also a skilled hacker and has always been a person of action. As the daughter of deceased Gotham commissioner, Jim Gordon, batgirl makes sure her father’s demise wasn’t in vain. Batgirl stans unite.
- The first Robin, Nightwing is an expert at taking down enemies with his signature weapon, dual escrima sticks. Dick Grayson is a natural leader, an optimist, and the wisest of the Batman Family. His mastery in acrobatics helps him to become another fan favorite in co-op mission neutralizing enemies. He believes that, for the fight to be worth it, there must be something real to fight for.
- At the peak of human strength, Red Hood serves as the third playable character in the game. He’s seasoned in multiple combat techniques including both traditional and high-tech weapons. Equipped with his iconic dual pistols, Jason Todd is ready to take on his enemies.
- Bat Family’s youngest Robin, Tim Drake is a master of deductive reasoning. With a background in combined psychological warfare, behavioral sciences and armed with his collapsible quarterstaff, he’s ready to accomplish any mission.
Redding clarifies that all these characters are hand-picked because they resemble certain stylistic choices that the players need to make during a co-op or playing alone in single-player missions. He expects people to have main characters to play co-op and a secondary main character to play alone in single-player mode. They can also change characters multiple times during a single co-op campaign. Players need to return to The Belfry to do so, which will be their home base.
Though Gotham Knights is offering up to four playable characters, this co-op campaign is limited to two players online which mean no local co-op, split-screen gameplay experience.
Gotham Knights is set just after the demise of Batman and Commissioner James Gordon. The Bat-Family steps in to protect Gotham City from the most celebrated villains and the Court of Owls with their legion of brainwashed assassins, Talons. With Batman, Gotham City also lost the Batcave which is termed as “Code Black” in the comics. Instead, the Bat-Family uses the Belfry as their base of operations, which is again the exact place players need to be when trying to change characters in co-op.
Gotham Knights is set to hit PC and consoles in 2021. With a range of well-known supporting and playable characters and a huge DC fandom, this game is set to launch with a bang. If you are also interested in taking part in the disturbed city of Gotham as one of the legendary heroes then make sure you comment about what more you are expecting from this game.
